P7100 Injection Pump | P7100 Injector Pumps

P7100 Inline Manual Bosch Fuel Injection System

A P7100 pump is the first Bosch injection pump Model introduced with the Common Rail Bosch fuel injectio system and the last Bosch Pump model that was manually driven rather than computer controlled. The P7100 unit therefore has many more moving parts than either the VP44 pump or the Bosch CP3 pump. The P7100 is designed to mechanically meter the pressure in the fuel system and disperse the correct amount of fuel to the diesel cylinders. Normal operating pressure for this Bosch pump is between 3,000 to 5,000 psi. The P7100 pump is driven directly from the engine crankshaft by means of a series of gears designed to transfer torque from the engine into the pump. Therefore the P7100 must be timed with the engine in order to have the fuel delivery at the proper point during combustion. The P7100 is equipped with a timing pin and having a correctly timed P7100 fuel pump is critical for having the diesel engine perform correctly.

If you think you have a P7100 pump failure check to make sure that you do not have a fuel supply pressure variation. Signs of a fuel supply problem could be white smoke coming out of the tailpipe of the vehicle. The vehicle would also be hard starting, have decreased performance and low rpms at idle.
